Supernatural Pilot Episode

The pilot episode of Supernatural, which aired September 13, 2005, is a great introduction to the series, because it introduces the two main characters at the same time it shows us why their father, John, becomes a demon hunter and what he is going after.  The series opener also shows the viewer how the brothers reunite to go find their father.

Episode synopsis

In the recap at the beginning of the second episode the viewer finds out the date the following happens on November 2, 1983.

Lawrence, Kansas 22 years ago
Here we see a mother, Lilly, and her son, Dean, out in the hallway going into a bedroom to say goodnight to Dean’s new baby brother Sam.  The father, John, comes into the room a few seconds afterwards to say he is home.  While picking Dean up, He asks him jokingly if Sam is big enough to catch a ball.  Dean laughs no, and his father carried him back to his room.
In the next scene, Lilly wakes up to baby Sam making noise through the baby monitor.  She rolls over to see that John is not in bed, and gets up.  She walks down the hall to Sam’s room to see a man standing next to the crib.  She starts to hear noise coming from downstairs, and goes to see what it is, think that John is with Sam. Once she gets down the stairs, she sees her husband asleep in a chair in front of the TV, which is on.  She runs back up stairs screaming for baby Sam.  John wakes up the moment Lily gets to the baby door, and she screams on last time.  John runs up to Sam’s room, to see Sam wide awake in his crib.  That is when he notices a red dot next to his son’s head.  He puts his hand on top of it to find out that the red stuff is dripping from the ceiling.  He looks up and falls back when he sees his wife press to the ceiling with a gash in her stomach.  Fire erupts around her and spreads to the rest of the room.
John still in shock grabs baby Sam and runs out the room.  John sees little Dean come into the hallway and gives him Sam and tells Dean to take his brother and run out of the house.  John runs back into the room, but his wife’s body is no longer visible.  The action cuts to little Dean holding baby Sam in his arm looking up at the burning room and then starts walking as fast as he can away from the house.  John runs out of the house and snatches Dean up in his arm.  With Dean still holding onto Sam, John runs away from the house.
Next, the viewer sees firefighters and police at the house trying to get the fire out.  The camera pans over to John and the boys, who are sitting on the hood of a “black 1967 Chevy Impala, 327, 4-barrel, V-8 engine, automatic, 4-dr, Hardtop” (FAQ for "Supernatural") with KAZ 2Y5 on the license plate, watching the house.

Present Day, Stanford California

The viewer sees three college age adults drinking at a pub, one female and two males.  The viewer hears one of the male calls the other male Sam.  They start talking about Sam wanting to go to Law school, and that he has an interview with the local university on Monday
Afterwards, Sam is seen entering an apartment, looking for someone name Jess, who turns out to be his girlfriend.  They go to bed, only Sam wakes up to an intruder.  While fighting the intruder, Sam realizes that the person is his brother Dean.  Jess comes into the room, to see what is going on.  Sam introduces her to Dean, and then Dean says that he needs to talk to Sam.  Sam says that they can talk in front of Jess.  Dean tells them that their father is on a “hunting” trip and hasn’t been home in a few days. Sam tells Jess to go into the other room.
This is when Dean informs Sam that their father is hunting for the thing that killed their mother and now he is missing. Sam agrees to go with Dean, on the assumption that he will be back by Monday for his interview.

Jericho, California
The viewer sees a guy in a car stops on the side of the road to talk to a girl dress in white. She asks him to take her home.  Once she gets into the car, the guy starts looking at her like a sex object more than a human.  He agrees to take her home, thinking he is going to get lucky.
He pulls up to an abandon farmhouse.  The girl gets out of the car only to disappear.  The guy gets out of the car to go looking for her; only he gets scared by nothing and drives off.  The girl reappears in his backseat.  He drives on to a closed off bridge.  The view switches to the outside of the car, where the viewer hears his screams
Next, the viewer sees Sam and Dean at a gas station talking about credit card scams as they leave.  Then, Sam and Dean arrive at the crime scene pretending to be U.S. Marshals. They find out the guy’s name is Troy Squibs and that no body was found.  Therefore, the police are treating it like a missing persons case.
Afterwards, Sam and Dean go talk to Troy’s girlfriend to find out that the town has a ghost legend of a girl jumping off the bridge where Troy’s car was found.
That night, Sam and Dean go back to the bridge, only to end up running for their lives from their car, the Impala with no keys in the ignition, after seeing the girl in white jump from the bridge.  Sam and Dean end up jumping over the rail to get away from the car.  Only, Sam hangs on to the rail while Dean jumps off the bridge and into the water.
The next day, Sam and Dean go to a hotel to get a room, only to find out that their father already paid for a room for the month.  Once inside the room their father paid for, they realized that he had answered the question of what they are dealing with, a woman in white.
Afterwards, Dean is arrested for false identity.  When the police look inside the hotel room, they find John’s journal, and show it to Dean.  With everything else the police found in the room, it made Dean out to be their prime suspect.
Sam goes off on his own to ask the woman in white’s husband where she is buried.  While there Sam tells the man what a woman in white is. Woman in white is a woman who been cheated on, and who killed her kids, and herself in a moment of insanity.
Later Dean escapes from jail, with John’s journal, after Sam makes a false 911 call.  Dean calls Sam to thank him and to tell him that their father left Jericho. Sam while on the phone is stop by the woman in white, and make him take her to the farmhouse. Once there, she forces herself on him, only Sam is faithful.  She kisses him and it gives her enough wiggle room in the code of the woman in white to kill Sam.  Only he gasses the car and drives it into the house, where she is force to see her kids.  Her kids rip her to sheds in revenge for killing them and they are sucked into the floor.
Sam and Dean leave Jericho.  Sam looks up the map coordinates in their father’s journal, Blackwater Ridge in Colorado.  Dean tells Sam we need to head that way, only Sam reminds Dean that he need to be a school for his interview in 10hrs.

Stanford, California

Sam enters the apartment asking for Jess again only this time she does not answer him.  Instead, thinking that she is out, he goes to bed, only to have blood hit him in the forehead when he lies down.  He opens his eyes to see his girlfriend, Jess, on the ceiling in the same manner of his mother 22years ago.  Fire erupts around her and spreads throughout the room.  Dean bursts in and pulls Sam, who is in shock, off the bed, and out of the apartment.
The last scene is of firefighters and police trying to get the fire out, with Sam loading a shotgun and throwing it in the truck, with Dean next to him.  He tells Dean “We got work to do.”
